Flowers For Algernon

"And I had almost forgotten.

Only a short time ago, I learned that people laughed at me.

Now I can see that unknowingly I joined them in laughing at myself. That hurts most of all.

I have often reread my early progress reports and seen the illiteracy, the childish naïveté. the mind of low intelligence peering from a dark room, through the keyhold, at the dazzlinglight outside. In my dreams and memories I've seen Charlie smiling happily anduncertainly at what people around him were to saying. Even in my dullness I know I was inferior. Other people had something i lacked - something denied me. In my mental blindness, I had believed it was somehow connected with the ability to read and write, and i was sure that I could get those skills I would have
intelligence too.

Even a feeble-minded man wants to be like other men.
A child may not know how to feed itself, or what to eat, yet it knows hunger
."

- Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes

i suggest people to read this book. a simple story of a low intellectual man who wants to be just like anyone else accepted an offer to be an experiment that changes him to become wiser. the story potrayed a man's journey on realising who he really is and what he really wants in his life; shows its curiousity, domineering side of men and at its weakest.

--------------------

and i was trying to concentrate with the book when i sensed the person facing me was staring directly at me the whole journey back home. it was fucking obvious because her shifty eyes were like everywhere when i tried staring back at her. when i shifted my attention back to the book, she stares right back again. it's so annoying i wanted to show her the finger. but then again, i wore office wear and its just weird showing the finger (though i dont do it). by the way, it's really rude to stare a person. weren't you taught manners?! *clicks tongue

So, Funny

i thought worklife is funny. but the workpile in worklife is funnier. the work ethics are even funnier. im supposed to end my contract at the end of this month but i actually extended my contract. is that, the funniest thing you heard about someone who dislikes her job but on the contrary, signs on?

hilarious.

by the way, i read mong's blog about snacking and i realised that snacking while working is such a bad habit. you sit there almost 24/7 facing the goddamned computer (i swear my sight's degree has increased tremendously) and snacking. you'll just grow fat and die! i tell you what i snack in the afternoon. ranging from meiji plain crackers, oreo, or chips or chocolate bars. my diet of snacking is so fat and disgusting that sometimes i just stop the whole cycle. but it's only temporary.

oh. my supervisor caught me almost dozing off and she was nice enough to actually remind me that the office has plentiful of shifty eyes, if you know what i mean in fact, actually i do. ive seen PLENTY in and out of life. and i know they're watching but act as if they're not. you cant fool me because despite my pooor eyesight, i have great foresight. *beams

oh did i tell you i had good dreams these few days? i dreamt entering university and that rocked my pillows and bolster. you dont know how happy i was in slumberland. also, the next day it was this hot guy or should i say b-tan kinda hot was trying to woo me..and this malay dude too. i could still vividly remember the contents of my dream and its definitely a good one :D

its 12 and its time to hit the sack. guess i'll update soon.

Sungei Buloh w/ A Special Friend

ack! im still feeling the trip we made yesterday. tickles my bones whenever i think of it. Alicia and i went to Sungei Buloh mainly for lunch when we decided to take a walk around the swamps. poor me was wearing the wrong gear and i was smart enough not to apply my eyeliner or else other visitors might thought they saw things. and now an overview of the trip:

nasi lemak...

and the wrong footwear!

if monitor lizards are men's best friend...

so are the ants!

dragonflies moshing

wtf? can't we make do with nature instead?

alicia, apparently my sis did these pieces rofl

alicia blew,

meditated...

and jumps too!

i thought looked like hegrid's petrified sister

hmm...

the entire travelling part [to Sungei Buloh] was a hassle unless you drive because the nature reserve park is so deep in. and you've got to wait for the hourly shuttle service(located at kranji MRT station) and mind you the mini bus doesn't wait and of course since it's mini, the amount of people it can fetch is minimum. its just too bad if the bus is packed and you've got to wait for the next hour...which obviously sucks bad.

therefore i suggest sharing a cab might save you time and money; the mini bus charges 2bucks a head. i mean, since it's just a 10mins ride and if you're going in a bigger group, why not?

poor alicia and me walked for km(s) around thepark and when it's time for us to head home. the minibus arrived was so crowded, we gave up the idea and walked out, and i didn't regret not taking the minibus because we had so much fun along the way! i've got a tan, by the way. rofl

Only 18

i thought youtube-ing is all trashy until i realised it does not only broadcast videos or just another community webpage. it brings you hatred, fame, love, sympathy, blah blah blah you get my gist.

well i was youtube-ing as usual when i spotted her. in fact 3.5million others already did guess im the only one left to realise. she's 18, and she SINGS awfully well.

her very first video got 3million over hits, won the hearts of MANY people by her viciously strong vocals and thus by watching the above vid (most popular vid) im just left speechless. she's talent spotted by big-time recording companies from the states and got herself on Billboard. like, wtf thats cool haha and oh, she's Esmee. browse more of her videos to catch her co-starring with stars like Natasha Beddingfield and Justin Timberlake.

so do things that you really love or never expect yourself to do. you'll never know what you'll get. live, breathe, dream, hope.

PS: however, Tammy videos are not advisable.

9 Crimes & Grey Skies

i find it amusing when some people say "its okay" when they really dont mean it. they say that because they want to make you feel better, look better, trying to show you that you actually 'mean the whole world' to them.

my take on that seriously? bullshit.

and its always the good thing that people talk about you when they face you. but seriously, they dont even consider you 1/4 of their 1 friend in their friendlist a.k.a NOTHING when you're not around. ever heard of your friend saying truthfully that you look like shit in the vintage dress? and with the shades and peep toe shoes on, its just dreadful and disgusting? i doubt they would. they'd just claim eg. "omg yeong you just look stunningly hot in that, aw you sunshine with hugs and kisses"

okay shut it. if it looks like shit, it looks like shit. no point saying how good i look when everyone deep down in there agrees that the dress looks like some douche bag on me. thats why ive always thanked friends who speak up. always makes me feel more realistic rather than to assume that the dress looks indeed hot on me, making me an ASS out of U and ME. cliche, i know

someone, i shall not mention who (but she's lovely) told me that because we're being hypocrites. if it was all truth all along, you'd have nothing more to look forward to. thats why people lie. thats why people fabricate truth. to make you want see what happens next. so that this story could still go on. thank you for your earnesty

at one point, im all used to how people laugh at each other's flaw and pointing out at each other on how fat or short or anorexic or fake one looks. and i believe people are just used to how one stares at them. not for me though. i just cant get over the 'whole-world-staring-at-you' issue and left you wondering wtf did they stare me for? and it keeps on going round like some vicious cycle, like your mom has made a mistake giving birth to you or, like you're the joke of singapore. this, is one of the things that haunt and daunt me. find me strength find me strength...

one sad truth about life: we are all hypocritical. and whats the other? D, told me once it has all got to do with the Forbidden Fruit Theory. so, go figure.

Pest Issues?

Ratatouille sounds totally like some rat's story in france. but in actual fact fyi, its FOOD. can you believe it?! PUN! french ratatouille may be served as a meal on its own or as a side dish. Tomatoes are a key ingredient, with garlic, onions, zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, some herbes de Provence, and sometimes basil. All the ingredients are sautéed lightly in olive oil. and now back to the animation...

Ratatouille

a rat with a big heart and strong determination.

Ratatouille is one of the best written animated films ive ever caught. the casts are amazing, the storyline is impactful, very poetic and surreal. i would recommend this to everyone of all ages.

kids might not understand what the movie is talking however the animations are just simply amazing, humourous and definitely entertaining that they'll love it. also, the storyline filled with meaningful phrases, i learned something as a person and i believe it applies to all everyone. :0)

by the way, if you are wondering how to cook ratatouille, you can refer to THIS WEBPAGE

meanwhile, enjoy the movie!

"The combination of Disney and Pixar never ceases to amaze, but with Ratatouille, their newest effort, animated features are brought to new heights with the bestone to date. Ratatouille is stunning, surreal while at the same time realistic, and a joy to watch. The writing is, in one word, just amazing, and the voice acting is sensational. The characters are poetic and real, and the rats are some of Disney/Pixar's cutest creations. Ratatouille is written and directed by Brad
Bird (The Incredibles), and features stellar voice acting from Peter O'Toole,
Patton Oswalt, Ian Holm, Brian Dennehy, Lou Romano, Brad Garrett, and Janeane Garofalo.

Remy (voiced by Patton Oswalt) is a little rat who dreams of
becoming a chef just like his idol, the human Gusteau (voiced by Brad Garrett).
After a mishap, Remy loses his family in the sewers and comes upon a fading
restaurant that had previously been owned by Gusteau before his untimely death.
He comes upon a lowly garbage boy, Linguini (voiced by Lou Romano), and together they set out to revive the once-legendary restaurant.

Ratatouille is filled with loads of surprises and lots of twists and turns. The animation is even more stunning here than in some of the other Disney/Pixar productions, and the breathtaking landscape of Paris, France, really adds a layer of realism to the film. The food looks so real and delicious, and the humans and rats look incredibly realistic. Remy and Linguini are both lovable characters, and the audience is rooting for them the entire way. Surprisingly enough, this movie is
the funniest of the Disney/Pixar films, with very subtle and unique humor.

As previously stated, the voice acting really makes the film different,
and each actor is perfectly suited to his or her role. The best among the bunch
happens to be Lou Romano, as he deals with his character extremely well and is
incredibly believable. There are times when the acting and animation is so
excellent that you forget you are watching an animated film altogether. Brad
Garrett is actually tolerable for once, and is excellent in his role as Gusteau,
who acts as Remy's conscience for the majority of the film. Some of the funniest
scenes in the movie are rooted from Gusteau's chats with Remy and many others
come from the relationship between Linguini and Remy. On another note, Patton
Oswalt does a magnificent job voicing Remy, and Peter O' Toole is very memorable as Anton Ego, the food critic for 'The Grim Eater'.

Overall, you can't ask for a better film than Ratatouille, a new classic from Disney/Pixar that is filled with humor, amazing animation, and, most importantly, lots of heart. Some of the scenes are so poetic and perfect that they just bring tears to your eyes.

It may be hard to believe, but Ratatouille is far better than any other animated films you will see this year, or perhaps that you will ever see. It manages tobe better than Toy Story, better than Finding Nemo, even better than the fantastic Meet the Robinsons. I saw a pre-screening of the film onSaturday, June 16, but I cannot wait to see it again once it hits theaters everywhere on June 29. See Ratatouille—it is highly original, heartwarming, uplifting, and a very thrilling movie that has to be the best animated feature of the last few decades. "

Sex Sells

im recently into the forums of whosgoing.com.sg because they're so entertaining, comparing to the live chats they have in stall. however, one thing im very certain about whosgoing is that it not only serves a purpose for clubbing kaki(s) to gather and form their own clubbing groups or share clubbing information blah blah...

its becoming more of a friendster, myspace. people messaging each other for their msn address/handphone number and getting all steamed up simply by just browsing their "almost-naked" bodies (dont be offended here). and its rather annoying when they try adding people they dont know at all into their list and actually boast they have like 9999999999 friends. nothing wrong when you are THAT good to the extent however if you're just adding for the sake of adding, seriously thats pretty much being quite a loser. unless you're anything but sincere, i guess i dont mind being your friend/clubbing kaki. (:

bottomline, sex sells.

Trigger, Bang!

i must say, plenty of Singaporeans have ought to learn basic manners and etiquette. looking at the way kids from the nearby secondary school talk and walk and behave, i shudder. and i am able to give it a rest cos i know there are people of my age still acting that way.

however, something that triggers and blows me is how the passengers of a bus and the train behave. i'll just touch on 2 pointers that disses me off bad.
  • SAFETY PRECAUTION [THE-CLOSING-DOORS & THE SUICIDAL ATTEMPT]
  • OLD FOLKS AND THE BIG TUMMIES

Safety Precaution Measures & The Suicidal Attempts

i know everyone's rushing to get to their destination. and i do know how crazy things can get when trying to rush into a closing door.

take for example i was in the train heading home when these 3 or was it 4? anyway, these ladies rushed towards the closing door (the doors are already half closed) and the poor old lady who was slow and unsteady was almost crushed by the heavy weight doors, i swear. my jaws were like, dropping. and the thing that dissed me off badly was, they had the fucking cheek to laugh. hello? if they didnt react quickly to pull the old lady away i wonder would they still laugh at the fucking incident.

there was another. the lady's pregnant and she tried squeezing into the fully crowded, half closing doors of the train. i mean, it doesnt hurt to just let this train pass by and wait for another.

PATIENCE, people.

and yes, the trend of those with suicidal tendencies are by jumping off the railway tracks. wtf were you even thinking when you set your decision on killing yourself. dumbest way to die. uglist too. so, think twice when choosing the perfect place to kill yourself. please dont do it at my doorway though.

Old Folks & The Big Tummies

apparently you know who im referring to OR you pretend not to. anyway, just be kindhearted and let them have the seat alright? my colleague Mala was 8mths pregnant and has to carry her fucking huge tummy from Outram to Choa Chu Kang. her tummy showed that she was obviously pregnant and guess what? NO single soul gave her their seat.

how ashamed i am of my fellow people sometimes.

Who is your true self:

You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.

hold on. before you even ask me where i got this, there is something that i have always been trying to know about these 'personality' thingy. who on earth came out with such 'personality' tests? no, i mean, seriously. who has the goddamn audacity to come up such things? it's funny how contradicting i sound here but then again, the whole thing looks so real; i got confused with my own identity. like, wtf?

i dont even know myself and yet these tests have the ability to identify the real you? thats insanity. its like the equation of the computer having this ability to predict what colour your panties is. doesnt it all sound the same? go figure

oh, by the way if you are still wondering whats the link, i have forgotten what is, anyway. so apologies and get a grip...cheeseburger sounds good to me!

YouTube-ing

i woke up at 1 odd in the afternoon today and slept at 6A.M that morning. (if my dad's to know i was up that late he'd have killed me) i was youtube-ing, you see. as we know, YouTube is not only a broadcasting tool, it is also a form of entertainment, a tool to gain extra knowledge, and to know exactly what is going on the other side of the world. and so, i have become one of those people who'd sit upclose to my computer and just tube. and i must say, its addictive. :)

+++

anyway i have decided to add something new in my blog, Movie Reviews under the catagory 'Movies'! so if you are wondering what movies i have caught recently, old or new, you might just wanna check out the ratings and review too.

The Freedom Writers, 2007

after watching Freedom Writers (starring Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey) on DVD... i thought racial discrimination is one heck of a scary thing that is happening everywhere. riots, civil wars, disputes are going on daily like running water and i doubt there will be a day this will cease.

this movie related to me about the jorney of an inspiring story. teacher Erin Gruwell a.k.a Mrs. G (Hilary Swank), another ordinary new high school teacher of Wilson High who has no idea what her class will be like -- a bunch of delinquents with life so screwed up...you can never imagine what its like to be in their shoes.

coming to realise its all about the discrimination that is root of all causes, Mrs. G decided to try all means by using the-not-so-conventional teaching way to get the class together, to understamd that there are more to than just the colour of the skin but hope, dreams, respect, love, kinship and discipline to overcome their fears and obstacles in life...

i believe everyone have a story to tell...and so do you.

the real deal. get the book at Amazon

want to know more? you should really catch the movie. ;)

Feel, like there is no tomorrow

time passes us too quickly, so much that we use this phrase time flies so frequently that i got so sick of it. but seriously, time indeed flies just like how the birds would in the sky. it gets us on so effing quick, that it became a norm to be living in this fast paced world. and everyone are actually able to grow into it.

but i cant, for some reason.

i like it slow. sometimes i'd just take half an hour (usually i take 10?) strolling back home. i would just gaze into the blue blue skies with the birds and the flora and fauna. i didnt realise the beauty that is going on around me. so beautiful, that i actually forgot the ugly. i was mesmerised by the vast blue skies travelling slowly by the command of the wind. the fields so green it must have been the perfect place for little creatures. the kids at the soccer court enjoying their game of soccer and the old couple taking slow strolls just like.

everything around me tells a story. and really, if i have the time in the world, i dont mind listening to them. beauty exists in the ugly and so are happiness in the sad. shall we just take a moment from the fast paced world, slow it down, catch a breath or two and enjoy the little details around us? you'll never know what you'll get.
