Why Act Dumb When You're Smart?

this topic began when i had a casual conversation with this NUS undergrad, X i recently got to know.

i was really curious about life in NUS so i blurted something stupid,"so how's the girls in university? do they have cliques like..the sporty ones, the nerds, edgy type and bimbos...etc." (the moment i completed my sentence i thought the question i just popped sounded really...stupid) X kindly answered anyways, and went, "yup, like those you mentioned, however it's ironic of universities having girls who act all bimbotic."


"maybe they act dumb for the attention, or they might personally think it's somewhat cute" i replied with a laughter. he then told me it is one of the stupidest idea of a undergrad to act all innocent, cute, whatsoever just to grab people's attention. X went on mimicking how this smart woman he knows that acts dumb, which annoys him and his friends to the core.

"you have brains, you have brawns and i just don't see the need to add the extra flavour. sometimes overdoing it is unnecessary." he said.

i interrupted and told him Paris Hilton might be smart after all, in a bimbotic manner, of course. so i gave him this anecdote of Paris Hilton being the new age blonde - the dumb meets dumber-er. i further explain that despite the fact Paris Hilton being all stupid, she earns income with all the publicity stunts and the growing talents she discovered: modeling, music and acting careers which are pretty 'smart' moves.

digression! digression!

i just don't get it. why would smart women act dumb and bimbotic when they already have brawns and brains? is that some kind of strategy? do guys do that too?!
